Five Steps to MAG

In order to give organizations the best chance for a successful application, The Forbes Funds offers a five-step Management Assistance Grant Process.

The Five Steps

Five Step Application ProcessIf you have determined that your organization meets the criteria for assistance, we encourage you to apply. The Forbes Funds accepts applications year-round. Our Board of Directors makes funding decisions on a quarterly basis during the calendar year. Your organization's application may not necessarily be reviewed in the same quarter you have applied.

Step 1: Submit your application and supporting documents

Download the application using the link to the right.

Step 2. Preliminary evaluation & scheduled site visit

We will review the application and communicate The Forbes Funds’ interest. If the project meets our Grantmaking Criteria, we may schedule a site visit with the executive director and key board members and staff to discuss the proposed project.

During the review process, our staff may ask various persons, including your organization’s board members, other organizations, grantmakers and community members, for information. If there are sources that you do not wish us to contact, please let us know.

Step 3: Develop your Request for Proposal (RFP)

If after the preliminary evaluation and site visit, The Forbes Funds wishes to continue moving forward, we will ask your organization to develop an RFP to retain the services of a consultant. We appreciate your conducting due diligence in obtaining at least 2 competitive bids to find the right consultant for your project. Once you have chosen a consultant, please notify us of your selection.

Step 4: Notification of Award

If The Forbes Funds approves your grant, we will promptly notify the designated point of contact and/or executive director of the organization.

Step 5: Grant Awards

Once the grant is approved, you can begin working with the consultant. Your organization must submit invoices related to the project – typically from the consultant – to The Forbes Funds for reimbursement. Your organization can send requests for payment on the grant award in installments; however, you must submit a copy of the final deliverable and complete our post-project survey before requesting final payment of the grant award, which must be no more than the amount indicated on the approval letter. The actual amount remitted will be based upon the actual funds spent on the project.

Confidentiality is an important value to The Forbes Funds. MAGs are made to your organization, not to the consultant. You are the client, and you should report to us about activities during the grant period. We do not require your consultant to report on work completed for you or information collected on your program.
