Capable leaders, effective management and sound governance all contribute to the success of nonprofit organizations. The Forbes Funds has been helping nonprofits to strengthen their management capabilities since 1982. This work is carried out, in part, through the awarding of Management Assistance Grants (MAGs).
Management Assistance Grants are designed to strengthen the management capacity of nonprofit organizations serving Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, with a focus on human services and community development. The Forbes Funds’ support allows organizations to retain technical assistance consultants who help directors and staff assess their strategic environment, identify unmet needs and opportunities, and develop efficient organizational structures and processes. Modest grants are made for well-defined projects that are custom-tailored to an organization’s capacity-building needs. Indirect costs (e.g., salaries and rent) are not covered. Grants range from $500 to $20,000.
Projects designed to enhance organizational effectiveness require a significant commitment on the part of the grantee, including its board and staff. Applicants for MAGs must be committed to investing the time and attention of both staff and board in achieving their organizational objectives.
The Forbes Funds is interested in projects that offer the prospect for sustained capacity-building projects that increase the organization’s independent ability to address their challenges and opportunities continuously and effectively.
