Several foundations, including the Pittsburgh Foundation, convened to report on the impact of the recession, specifically its impact on safety net programs in Ohio and Pennsylvania. This report investigates the compound effect of the economic downturn on older industrial cities that were already in need of revitalization, and the trends in social service needs (e.g. food stamps, housing, etc.) that nonprofits must take into consideration in order to respond accordingly.
