So what does lean manufacturing have to do with a nonprofit business?
That’s exactly what approximately 25 nonprofit leaders gathered on Tues. Feb. 16th to find out. Led by Thomas Bloom of Catalyst Connection, The Forbes Funds hosted a breakfast briefing to provide organizations an introduction into lean process mapping.
On Tuesday, Feb 9, approximately 40 nonprofit CEO, CFOs, and senior leaders gathered to strengthen their knowledge of strategic financial models and spend time aligning financial and strategic priorities.
The full-day training was hosted by The Forbes Funds and led by Fiscal Management Associates (FMA) CEO Hilda Polanco and Director John Summers.
At our final session in a five-part series, Derrick Feldman of Achieve revealed the findings of a year-long cohort of Pittsburgh nonprofits. The cohort worked hands-on with these organizations to personalize and improve their annual campaigns via direct mail and email solicitations, based on tested and proven practices. The first iteration of UpPrize, the BNY Mellon Social Innovation Challenge culminated on Friday, July 31st in front of an audience of approximately 300, representing non-profits, start-ups, private firms, and investors. During the event at New Hazlett Theater, attendees heard the polished pitches of the eight UpPrize finalists, and learned the recipients of the $800,000 of grants and investments.
The Forbes Funds is deeply saddened by the loss of community leader and philanthropist Elsie Hillman. In 2011, The Forbes Funds awarded Hillman our Frieda Shapira Medal for Exemplary Leadership because of her commitment to supporting many charitable causes and organizations in Pittsburgh.
