“Capacity Building in the Non-Profit Sector: A Comparison of Resources and Practices in Pittsburgh and Denver”

A comparative overview of efforts in Pittsburgh, PA and Denver, CO to build and sustain organizational capacity. Exploring Allegheny County’s resources and programs in relation to other major urban areas provides perspective on the characteristics required of high-performing organizations and a metric for assessing performance. The following recommendations are presented: facilitate regional dialogue regarding the nonprofit sector’s capacity to create positive and sustainable change, continue to study best practices in capacity-building, and develop a network of stakeholders with a shared commitment for capacity-building.
