During and on the heels of The Great Recession, trends in poverty were directly tied to the economy. For the Pittsburgh region in particular, there was interest in the extent of the impacts of the recession. While the Pittsburgh area fared better than other comparable cities, it did not negate that poverty impacted several hundred thousand residents.
As a result, the causes and consequences of poverty are imperative to document in order for nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses to work together effectively and improve conditions for those most impacted in the community.
