Workforce Development Survey

by | March 2, 2022 | News, Advocacy & Lobbying | 3 comments

Nonprofits are reporting difficulty with hiring and retaining talent. As government and for-profit employers raise salaries and offer benefits and signing bonuses, nonprofits struggle to compete. The nonprofit sector is recovering at a slower rate than for-profit according to recent information shared in a New York Times article, as the economy recovers from the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership (GPNP) is looking for data and stories from our SWPA region to be able to share how workforce challenges are impacting local nonprofits. Your input will help us tell this important story to elected officials at the local and state levels, alongside data that demonstrates the economic impact of a healthy nonprofit sector since 16% of the Pennsylvania workforce is employed by nonprofit organizations. Respond to the survey here.

GPNP Director, Colleen Young, recently spoke with WESA about this critical topic – listen to the interview and read the WESA article here. Please email GPNP (gpnp@forbesfunds.org) with the subject: GPNP Workforce Survey if you have any questions or would prefer to discuss your story directly.

Thank you for your time and testimonials!

Looking forward to hearing more of these stories. Those voices will be critical in telling the impact, and I have personally let politicians know about the disparity in support towards businesses (e.g. $20M for barbershops, and $175M for Hospitality Industry from the Commonwealth in grants)–as opposed to nonprofit organizations. One thing I can concretely point to for improvement is cohesive and accessibile storytelling by and for the nonprofit sector as a whole. For example, I cannot find the top GPNP policy issue areas online in an accessible format in order to take action and to tell others to take action.

Hi Ali! Thank you for your comment. We are working on a new series of Nonprofit Spotlights to do just that – help nonprofit organizations tell their stories and share resources, updates, and priorities within and beyond our network. Regarding the current list of GPNP policy issues, we hear you! Look for an updated list with linked resources to help organizations take the first steps soon!

Great idea with the Nonprofit Spotlights, Emily. I saw the Sisters Place one, and two others already!
